Ways Kids Can Make Money
One of the best ways to teach kids financial responsibility is to have them earn their own money. Kids can easily add to their allowance, or even safe up for college with some of the different ways to make money that we’ll take a look at below. Here are some ideas to get started.
Lemonade Stand A lemonade stand is still an all-time favorite, both from a kid’s and a parent’s perspective. You probably remember having one of these when you where a kid. They are easy to set up, keep your child occupied all day and teach him or her a valuable lesson about business and money at the same time. Variations of this are a cookie or ice cream stand.
Baby Sitting Younger kids can work as a mother’s helper, keeping small kids busy while the mom is in the room next door taking care of some household chores, working her online business or just enjoying some much deserved time for herself. Being a mother’s helper is a great way for a younger child to get some baby sitting or child care experience.
Older kids can take on actual baby sitting jobs usually in the evening while the young children’s parents enjoy an evening out, or during the day while mom gets to enjoy some shopping on her own.
Cutting Grass Cutting Grass or any other type of yard work makes for another great way kids can make money. It gives them a chance to spent some time outside while helping your neighbors with their yard work and making a few dollars at the same time.
Dog Walking Dog walking is the perfect job for any young animal lover. There are many dog owners out there who just don’t have the time or ability to walk their dog on a daily basis. I suggest your child has some experience with dogs already before attempting dog walking on his or her own.
Flea Market Encourage your child to sell unwanted toys and books at your local flea market. Not only will this help you make some extra room in your child’s toy box and closet, it also makes it easier for your child to part with those items, since he or she will be the one selling them, getting a few dollars in return.
Ebay Take the flea market idea online by selling old books, toys and even clothes your kid has outgrown on Ebay with him or her. You child can help you set up the listing, and watch the bids come in. Calculating total profit after figuring in the cost of packaging and postage is a great math exercise. Your child can also help pack the items up and get them ready for shipping.
Blog or Website Your child can also start making money online with a simple website or blog. Younger kids may need Mom or Dad’s assistance when it comes to setting up the site and publishing content to it. Review sites or blogs are a great way to get your child started. Have him or her write or dictate a review of a book they just read of a favorite toy and post it to the site. Monetize the site by adding affiliate products and Google Adsense to the site.
You and your child will enjoy getting him or her started with one of these ideas, or your child may come up with an idea all of his or her own. Make sure making money stays fun and don’t put too much pressure on your child on the earning money part. This will ensure making money is a fun and exciting activity that will teach your child a lot about financial responsibility, growing up and joining the work force.
