How To Start a Kid's Produce Stand Business

Goodbye lemonade stands.  Hello full-fledged produce stand!  With the world showing more interest in healthy living and eating your child can start their own produce stand business and make good money while having fun and contributing to the health of others too!

With everyone becoming weight conscious these days, kids are no exception.  Many are eating all the wrong foods and are gaining too much weight.  Do you want to teach your kids about good nutrition and, at the same time, show them how to start a business?  Well, okay then ‚Äì here we go.

If you have a local wholesale produce business in your city where you can purchase fresh vegetables early in the morning, this can be the beginning of an exciting business for the kids.

First things first.  You have to have a stand.  This will entail getting the entire family together to make one. You can paint it different colors to ‚Äústand‚Äù out, and come up with a very large sign with a catchy name to make it extra special.

Next step is to advertise.  Make up flyers with your computer and printer and have the kids place them on poles and trees, neighborhood business and car windshields.  Make business cards as well, and ask local business owners if you can place them on their front counter.

Decide what type of produce you are going to sell.  Remember, it all depends on the season.  Watermelons may be available in April, but not in the winter, so research the produce you wish to sell online to determine at what time of year a particular item it is most available.

Visit the local wholesale produce businesses to ascertain the cost of purchasing the produce.  You should be able to save if buying in bulk.  Perhaps you can even make a deal with the business owner.  In addition, check the prices at your local supermarket.  This will also help in deciding how much to charge.

Sit down with your kids and make a business plan.  Factor in the cost of buying produce to figure out the selling price.  Discuss days and hours of operation.  Where are you going to sell the produce?  This can make all the difference in your sales.

Be sure to have plenty of ice to keep the produce fresh and make sure you place your stand in a high shaded area.  Make fabulous and colorful signs for each product.  You never know who may be passing by in a car and suddenly come to a screeching halt because you have something they want.

Finally, someone will have to get up bright and early to pick up the produce.  This may be the toughest part of the job but a great way to teach kids responsibility at an early age.  A kid produce business is a great way to learn business skills and make extra money.
